Some day, years from now, when my memory starts to fade, I will look back through these images and my heart will fill to bursting. The passion I feel for photography is drawn from my love of capturing the magical moments in life. Those fleeting seconds that make up the most important and intimate parts of our lives. The smiles and laughs. Even the tears. Thousands of them pass us by every day. Some we remember. Most we forget. But they mold us into who we are and how we see the world.  One of my greatest blessings in life is the ability I’ve gained to see life behind a lens, even when I may not have one with me. I hope to be able to always allow life to grab me so deeply. It’s a choice we make. Everyone can do it. My goal is to keep “seeing”. And to make 2015 more fantastic than ever.

And what better way to rock the holidays than spending three weeks in the busting metropolis of Floyd, Virginia? Don’t be fooled by the first two pictures (our last hurrah at home to see A Christmas Carol at South Coast in Orange County). The rest of this post is goin’ country! Best memories include tractor rides with the kids, Roo Roo the rooster chasing (and attacking several of us), clogging with Cath at the country store on Friday nights, Christmas lights twinkling over the blue ridge mountains, waking the kids up to hear Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve (yes, it’s true), and having free time to spend with my wife and her new Christmas bangs. We even made new friends and spent an evening at a farm cabin, circa 1700s with their 7 kids and a really cool treehouse. All in all, a magical Christmas where I fell in love with my family all over again.

I wish I could paint language to describe the incredible time we had through Northern Italy.  Cathy and I were WAY overdue for a “leave the kids at home” get away, and having our excellent fly by the seat of your pants travel companions Brandon and Rhyll (recently married last spring and photographed by yours truly) combined with Cathy’s meticulous research made for everything I hoped this would be.  From cruising the streets in our scooters,  to the most incredible views from our hotels, to racing to the tops of bell towers for sunsets, 4 servings of Gilato a day,  getting caught in thunderstorms, losing camera gear, passports, phones and getting them all back miraculously, chanting monks, 5 star restaurants, stitches, sunset/rise hikes, and laughing until it hurts…  well, just look at the pictures.

It’s been a long time coming,  but I finally got around to re-branding the blog, website and most importantly – Business Cards.   I know what you are thinking…  “What is Kris thinking?!”  Well sometimes you just have to do something for the sake of trying it.  A pop out business card is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.  Now i have a little army of my family to hang out with at wedding receptions.    I made Cathy take a quick couple of shots of me and the kids after dragging them out of their bedtime routine, and here we are…  We’re going to make some for Jason next, and then I’d like to redo mine to see if I can add Cathy in there and maybe included the fact that I’m a photographer (minor detail i missed).    Love to hear your thoughts – Next on my list is to build out all my website pages and then make a little video introduction.  I’d love some help if anyone has some free time in the evenings?  Mulling over ideas of how to NOT talk about wedding photography is where I’m headed.   Anyways, I’m soo thankful to be able to have come so far with photography and for all the support and love I get from friends and family daily.  This year has been crazy with adding Jason and Emily to the studio,  Big Weddings, new styles, and the most amazing couples than I could have ever hoped for.    I can’t wait to see where next year takes us!

My uber talented wife, Cathy, has a MAJOR soft spot for the singles of the world (I tell her it’s because she was single for so long she had to rob the cradle by marrying a younger man).

She will huff and puff and act insulted and then agree. Haha. Miss Puma.

Truth is, she’s just awesome and got offered a writing gigg for LDS Living Magazine. She wrote a feature story on LDS midsingles called, “The Midsingles Phenomenon” and it sat at their number one spot for most popular stories for over  a week. Yea, I always tell her I’m the lucky one. She pretends to deny it and then agrees. :)

For part of her research she went on location to a huge midsingles conference in Huntington Beach and asked me to work as her photographer. She worked me like a boss…literally :) and Burnt Exposure, with the help of Photographer Emily Knudsen, captured some great shots and was published on over 6 spreads in the issue.  Awesome work Emily!  Here’s the online version, but if you were at the conference and want to see if you made the photographic “cut”, you’ll have to grab a hard copy. I would anyway, it’s really interesting and the online version is only a snapshot.

Having that said, there were at least a hundred shots you might wanna check out if you were at the conference. Free download. Here is the link.  And if you can’t figure out how to download the images, go here

And look out for Cathy’s book on LDS midsingles…we’ll keep you posted when it hits the shelves.

I know I have a hundred posts to catch up on, and I usually like to brag about my Swedish Revolvers, Tofer and Charlie on here, but I’d like to brag about my awesome wife for a second.

Cathy and I don’t have the most inspiring dates these days since watching Netflix while the babysitter is downstairs sounds so appealing. We did, however, score some tickets (through Cathy’s skills) to the premier magic venue of all time in LA and we decided to take Kristin and Jason Turner from Colorado (who’s wedding I shot about a year ago and are a super rad couple).

Let me just say, getting dressed to the 9’s and stopping at In-N-Out, was an event in itself.   But the MAGIC CASTLE with red velvet upholstery and decor straight out of the 1930’s was awesome! We got lost in this mansion of parlors – every corner were tuxedos and disappearing coins.  I came as a skeptic but left (after being called up as a volunteer in front of a large audience) with a new love of magic and dating your wife.  Cathy was so fun yet sophisticated.  If anyone knows of a ball we can get into, please invite us! (and sorry we were forbidden to take pictures inside so I bummed one off google).
