Some day, years from now, when my memory starts to fade, I will look back through these images and my heart will fill to bursting. The passion I feel for photography is drawn from my love of capturing the magical moments in life. Those fleeting seconds that make up the most important and intimate parts of our lives. The smiles and laughs. Even the tears. Thousands of them pass us by every day. Some we remember. Most we forget. But they mold us into who we are and how we see the world.  One of my greatest blessings in life is the ability I’ve gained to see life behind a lens, even when I may not have one with me. I hope to be able to always allow life to grab me so deeply. It’s a choice we make. Everyone can do it. My goal is to keep “seeing”. And to make 2015 more fantastic than ever.

And what better way to rock the holidays than spending three weeks in the busting metropolis of Floyd, Virginia? Don’t be fooled by the first two pictures (our last hurrah at home to see A Christmas Carol at South Coast in Orange County). The rest of this post is goin’ country! Best memories include tractor rides with the kids, Roo Roo the rooster chasing (and attacking several of us), clogging with Cath at the country store on Friday nights, Christmas lights twinkling over the blue ridge mountains, waking the kids up to hear Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve (yes, it’s true), and having free time to spend with my wife and her new Christmas bangs. We even made new friends and spent an evening at a farm cabin, circa 1700s with their 7 kids and a really cool treehouse. All in all, a magical Christmas where I fell in love with my family all over again.

Can I just first say how  lucky i am to have an amazing wife who looks after, cooks for, cuddles, and then Mt bikes with her 3 boys!  (well once they get older.  This road trip was just what we needed to remind of us of how fun life can be when you just get out of the house and do something different.

It has been so much to look over and over images from this trip.  From the house we stayed in with the hammock swing, to the breathtaking views of cathedral valley and dead horse point – to the killer mt biking we did.  If i could just somehow just get paid to take pictures of my family on back to back vacations all around the world, I would never work another day of my life.   I leave on these trips thinking I won’t pull out the camera unless It’s just too cute or beautiful to resist… then i end up shooting the whole time.    It’s such a rewarding passion.  These images will be seen by my grandkids of their parents and the adventures they went on.  I also make a yearly family photo adventure book of all our trips and memories on Blurb.  If you look my up Kris Sundberg on facebook you can see the rest of the images.

OK – story time – This is our FAVORITE trail.  I dropped Cathy off with the lightnight storm in the background approaching and told her she’d be fine.  I head out with the kids in the car to go meet her at the end of the trail and it starts to rain.   She makes it down before I could even drive there!  no cuts or blood – just an out of breath, ” You HAVE to ride this!”  not wanting to be shown up… “alright, i guess we have time.”   When we get back to the trail head it is now pouring sheets of rain –  I swap the peddles and cath gets a shot from the car window.  It’s a 6 mile downhill bomb after a half mile climb against the whipping wind. Only trail in the country worth the torture…Orange County Wedding Photography IMG_9968

Ah the Ojomos (This is Kris talking) – I met Diana back in the day at college and she hasn’t changed a bit! It was a blast getting to know her family. They were all smiles and kept laughing at my lame jokes, so I knew we were going to have a good time – ha.

They wanted a more formal family picture to put over their mantel as they haven’t taken one for over 15 years! So we grabbed a good handful of those, but as always, got a little carried away with our non-traditional “flare”. I hope they like them anyways :). I had to promise no “beach” pictures to convince them to make the drive out here from that town that i can never remeber the name of. Apparently, the Ojomo’s hate the sand! It would have beem a terrible beach day anyways since it was literally the coldest day I have felt here in Huntington Beach. They had to put their coats on after every set to warm back up. Enjoy!

We were excited to get a call from the Smith family who had one day where they would be altogether and wanted to get some family shots. What a great day! We fished the pier, played in the sand, and danced in the setting sun. It was a great time for all – even Kris who had a heck of a time getting everyone to look in the same direction.

Family Mantle

This will be the Family Mantle Shot!

Grandmas don’t get more hip than this!

I hope Kris and I are this cute someday – What a great smile!

This was about the only picture she would pose for.  Kris told her he had a secret…  lol
